Lee Hendrie says that Gareth Southgate is interested in taking the now out of contract midfielder to Middlesbrough. Full article: Hendrie to Boro.

The official site have announced new EPOS systems being put in like they have at Wembley and the Emirates, the place where it will benefit most of us is with the introduction of 108 ‘touch screen’ tills for the catering. Hopefully there will be less queues next season and maybe even better food to buy?! Head of Business Villa Alison Plant said: ‘This is an important move by the club and one which will bring us up to speed with modern technology.’

Martin O’Neill is looking to add to the squad before kick off against Liverpool. He told the official site: ‘We’re still light on numbers. We’d like to add some players and we’re definitely going to try to strengthen. ‘We have a number of things on the go and now the Reo-Coker transfer has been done and dusted I can push it to the side and push on with other possible targets. I now want to put all my energy into getting other new players. We would ideally be wanting to start the season with as strong a squad as possible.’ Adding ‘We need a squad. There have been a number of players who have left. I am expecting us to improve our squad because we have an opportunity of doing so.’ Still say I’d rather have seen some arrive before the departures, but then again, MON is a well respected football manager – I on the other hand, am not!

Fulham’s new boy Steven Davis wants a good reception when he returns to Villa Park on August 25 with the Cottagers (an unfortunate nickname to say the least!) The Northern Ireland international midfielder told the Birmingham Mail: ‘I have a lot of fond memories. A lot of the same set of youth players came through to the senior ranks together and that made it even more enjoyable. It is sad to go but I have got to get my career back on track. Last year was very disappointing. I had a chat with Martin O’Neill and wasn’t given any real assurances about my future.’

Gareth Barry is delighted with the arrival of Nigel Reo-Coker and believes he could be just what the midfield needed. He told the official site: ‘He’s a strong player on the pitch and a strong character off it. His strength in midfield shines through. He’s a strong lad. You see him pick up the ball in the middle and all of a sudden, he’s driving forward with the ball at his feet. That’s his game and hopefully we’ll learn more about it in the next few weeks. But he’s also pretty quick for a central midfielder and his driving runs forward with the ball are probably something we’ve missed over the last few years.’

Barry also told the official site that Villa want to be challenging for Europe and that we need new arrivals to do that.

Submitted article: After a season of doing no wrong, boss Martin O’Neill has finally said something outrageous – that England could have a midfield formed of Aston Villa players in the near future. While fans who are convinced that the FA have an anti-Villa policy may not be convinced, O’Neill believes that Nigel Reo-Coker, Gareth Barry, Ashley Young and Gaby Agbonlahor could one day be international team-mates.
