19-year-old Norwegian starlet Lasse Staw has been landed a trial at Aston Villa. He currently plays at Fredrikstad who want to extend his contract, however the youth international has jumped at the chance to show the claret and blues what he can do. Staw said: ‘Aston Villa have invited me to trial for them. I’ve known this for quite a while now, but I didn’t know the date exactly. They have had scouts watching me play and have had contact with my agent.’

Danish international defender Martin Laursen is looking to return in time for the home game against Watford on January 20. Laursen, out since picking up knee ligament damage in the Carling Cup defeat at Chelsea in November, told the official site: ‘I started to train with the first team on Monday and it’s going well. I am hoping to be in the squad when we face Watford. My goal is to play as many matches as possible. I am really keen to do that. I am really sad that I have been injured so much during my time at Aston Villa, because I want to play here in England.’
