Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has spoken of is delight at seeing Birmingham named Great Britain’s candidate to host the 2022 Commonwealth games. Autumn – season of rain wear and mellow hopefulness. Leaves are falling all around and it’s time we were on our way. But while we waited for something more meaningful to resume, another England manager has been required to defend his team of overhyped players this week, who mostly looked exhausted after too many games of Guess-What-I’m-Worth. As might be expected, England looked about as unconvincing as they did under the guidance of every other manager before this latest political appointment. Dutiful patriots sat through the arse-aching hours while the wise chose to mitigate the experience by watching the highlights. The results seemed to substantiate the FIFA ranking system, with England (13th) scoring a hatful against Malta (190th) but then only scraping the narrowest of victories against Slovakia (22nd). The pundits were disappointed. The manager feigned outrage. The rest of us chorused a big fat Meh. The tradition was fulfilled. But now the football is back. The performance by goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in the scoreless draw with Brentford at the weekend at Villa Park was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid. Aston Villa’s Under 23 side took a comprehensive four nil victory over Southampton earlier this week. Hosting the side at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium for the game, a brace from Jordan Cox with solo efforts from Corey Blackett-Taylor and Callum O’Hare gave us the comfortable victory, but the main talking point from the night was Jonathan Kodjia making his return to the pitch. The EFL yesterday concluded the terms of a new broadcasting deal with Sky that will run for five seasons from 2019/20. The new deal is worth £600million and represents a year on year increase of 36% and it means Sky continue to be able to exclusively broadcast the League Cup, EFL Trophy and the Play Offs through until May 2014. This was a question raised at the Fans Consultation Group meeting on 12/09/2017 and the long and short of it is… no they aren`t! We specifically asked: What is the situation being reported at the moment about the Chinese Government clamping down on investment in football clubs and how will this impact us? In the context of being in the Championship and also if/when Villa are promoted. In terms of the PL, obviously there is an outstanding debt to Randy Lerner to be paid upon promotion, so what will our immediate ambition and capacity be in the PL?
