Jlloyd Samuel returns from his thigh injury in the reserves game against Watford tonight. (ko 7pm) Other senior players likely to feature Stuart Taylor, Didier Agathe, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Craig Gardner. VILLA: Taylor, Agathe, Samuel, Green, Lowry, Djemba-Djemba, Albrighton, Bridges, Mikaelsson, Gardner, Kabeya. Subs: Y.Bellon, Olejnik, Clark, Lund, Herd.

Martin O’Neill has said that Aaron Hughes isn’t likely to return from a recurrence of the groin injury in time for the Wigan game, ‘I would say so. I was told initially that it would be a couple of weeks before Aaron was back and I would assume that is still the case. As for surgery, I’m hoping not. There has certainly been no mention from the physios about immediate surgery.’

Villa have taken an additional 500 tickets for the trip to Portsmouth (Dec 2) after the initial allocation was quickly snapped-up by the Claret and Blue Army. The first 1,500 seats have already sold out, with the extra allocation now on sale.

Martin O’Neill is hoping inspirational Villa captain Gareth Barry will be able to return to the team for the away game against Wigan this Sunday (1.30, televised by Sky Sports). His return is doubly important as Villa will be missing Gavin McCann who is a very naughty boy and misses the game due to a one match suspension. He’ll remain at Villa Park writing lines one would presume.

Vital Villa asked if Stiliyan Petrov was right when he said Villa can ‘do an Everton’ and clinch 4th spot this season. 28% said yes, 38% said it was a long shot but we could possibly do it, 5% said we’d do it next season and a further 15% said we were more likely to qualify for the Uefa Cup this term. That left 13% predicting 7-10th and 1% asking ‘how the hell do I know!?’

Martin O’Neill says he is torn following loan links for Gary Cahill and Peter Whittingham: ‘I’m obviously very torn. The great thing about Lee Hendrie is that we can get him back at any given minute, and while he is still playing it is great news and we will see how we cope. Villa legend Paul McGrath is returning for book signing later this month, this time at Villa Village on Friday November 24 being in-store from 3.30pm to 5pm.
