Villa have been rocked by the news that Olof Mellberg has a hamstring tear and will miss this weekends game against Manchester United. It is feared the team captain could miss all of the Christmas period games.

Kevin Phillips has undergone keyhole surgery to try to cure his problematic ankle injury. He said it has gone well and it is now just a matter of giving his ankle time to recover.

Delaney is being linked to a move to Blackburn Rovers. The 29 year old right back is out of contract in the summer.

Delaney started his latest comeback from injury on Monday night in a reserves game v the Baggies.

Former Villa goalkeeper Boaz Myhill has been the subject of a story in the Sun. The report says that Hull chairman Adam Pearson has put a £2million price tag on the shot stopper in the hopes that he will fend off interest from both Arsenal and Wigan. We sold him in December 2003 for £50 000.

Something about him looking after all the players like Brian ‘he who walks on water’ Little, etc and that he will look after Davis. If there was ever a reason to move to Man Utd, that would surely be it?! It appears Villa will offer Davis a double your money deal to keep him at the club.

Jlloyd Samuel is fighting to re-gain his first team place and has also appealed against the decision not to allow him to play for Trinidad and Tobaga in the world cup. If he wins his appeal he will face England in the group stages.

Aaron Hughes says the next few weeks are make or break for Villa adding: ‘Now we’ve got lots of games in a short period of time and the sides that do well over Christmas are often the sides that do well come the end of the season.’
