Unoial Villa News…
The deal between Brighton and Villa for the transfer of goalkeeper Wayne Henderson has still not been tied up. Reports say that The Seagulls have agreed a fee thought to be in the region of £30,000 but there is a delay due to the players agent. Mark McGhee is hoping the deal will be sealed today so the shot stopper can play against Leeds tomorrow.
We asked in a poll last week if Villa are now safe from the relegation battle following our fine run of games over the Christmas period. 32% said yes and we can still make Europe, 25% we were safe and would get a mid table finish, 36% said we weren’t safe but we were close, and 7% said we’d get sucked back into the fight.
O’Leary said before the West Ham game that he wanted Villa to set the record straight against West Ham following the 4-0 drumming earlier in the season. O’Leary says Villa were ‘out-muscled and out-fought’. Shame what he said and what we did were two different matters. Full stats for the game:
O’dearme said after the game Villa were ‘back to their worst’. Full story:
You’ll no doubt have read about the ‘fake Sheikh’ who exposed (or is that entrapped) Sven Goran Eriksson. I’ve done a couple of stories about it, basically a reporter went undercover and got quotes from Sven saying Villa would be a good target to buy and he’d consider leaving England for the job if he got a salary in the region of what Mourinho gets. Yet another report with regards to the ‘real’ takeover which apparently will succeed or fail this week. Basically it is time to put up or shut up. Shame there isn’t a real sheikh looking, I can’t think of a better club available at the cost with the potential that Villa have got!
We asked how far you thought Villa would get in the FA Cup. Before the Hull game 41% said the 3rd round! That soon changed with an optimistic 27% saying Villa could go all the way. The rest were pretty evenly spread apart from the 4% who said Villa would make it to the semis. Full results:
Jlloyd Samuel hasn’t given up hope of playing for Trinidad and Tobago in the World Cup. The left back is also still being linked to the Villa Park exit door.
Patrik Berger is said to be a couple of weeks away from being able to step up his training regime in his latest attempt to come back from his knee injury and Kevin Phillips is hoping to be available if not for next weekends Spurs game, for the Cup game the week after. Full story: Click Here
O’Leary has told Lee Hendrie that he only has himself to blame in not featuring much this season. He basically says it is the players own fault for getting sent off before the season started and adds that he hasn’t been available for selection all the time because of injuries. Full story: Click Here
O’Leary had also said that if a player did well enough they would stay in the team but despite a good performance against Hull, Hendrie was dropped once again to the bench v West Ham, only for an 80% fit Eirik Bakke to hobble off after 12 minutes. Surely it is time to send Bakke back?
O’Leary says there is no way Villa will let De La Cruz leave Villa without a fee. Full story: Click Here
Papers are still saying that Lee Hendrie will be sold in the transfer window. Can’t see that we can afford to let him go, we are down to the bare bones already.
