Unoial Villa News…

The Daily Mail are claiming that Martin O’Neill wants to buy British, much like the policy we saw (and some of us enjoyed) under John Gregory. They also claim we have seen bids for Craig Bellamy (Liverpool), Robbie Keane (Tottenham) and a loan deal to bring Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea) to Villa have failed.

I read elsewhere that Villa might bid £12million to prize Craig Bellamy away from Liverpool, but can’t remember what red top that was in!

West Ham are rumoured to have had a bid of £8-10million accepted for Watford’s 21-year-old winger/striker Ashley Young with Aston Villa and Spurs also said to be interested.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Mathieu Berson, according to Sky, is trying to persuade Milan Baros to join him at Levante. Werder Bremen and Lyon have also been linked. Full article: Click Here

Gabby said of the transfer gossip on Ashley Young: ‘I’m not too sure what new players might be coming in – I leave that to the gaffer. I haven’t spoken to Ashley about coming. But there are a number of clubs in for him and he could go to any one of them. But if he came here, he could bring a lot more pace to our game, particularly down the wings and he could do a lot.’

On the weekends change of formation against Manchester United, Gary Cahill said: ‘The gaffer tried it, he didn’t like what he saw, so he changed it. But Hughesie was fine with it. Last week Rooney was a real threat in the hole and I thought it was a good idea to put someone in there because of that, but players like that will always find space. They’ve got some unbelievable players who make the jobs of the rest of the team easier as they’re all in the same class. Every time they broke forward their movement was frightening. It’s non-stop defending and although I’m sure it’s great to watch, it’s not particularly enjoyable to be on the receiving end. We can take a bit of credit for the way we played second half. But it was too late, in the first-half we were all over the place.’

Villa’s home reserve clash with Portsmouth has been brought forward 24 hours and will now be played at Villa Park Tuesday night (ko 7pm) (The game had been scheduled for Wednesday night (Jan 17) at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium.) The home reserve game v Spurs has also been switched and will now be played at Villa Park on April 11.

Vital Villa asked what positions should Martin O’Neill be looking to sign? 69% say a striker. 22% right midfield. 4% centre half and 4% centre midfield. That left just 1% saying left midfield, which is hardly a shock when you consider Gareth Barry plays there!

A report somewhere that I’ve just deleted the page of (see the efficiency of this operation, run almost like a military outfit – actually, with the latest military disasters I might be close to the truth – hey, I’m off on a ramble, where will it lead us? Oh yeah, rumours) Martin O’Neill has been linked to Polish international striker Radoslaw Matusiak for around £2.3million from GKS Belchatow. He has 9 goals this season.

Martin O’Neill says he will monitor the Lee Hendrie situation but wouldn’t hold him back if a team came in for him amidst reports that Stoke and Sheffield United are battling for the 29-year-old midfielders signature. Hendrie won’t be held back

Villa’s home game against Liverpool has been switched and will take place on Sunday March 18 and the latest stupid kick off time? 1.35pm.
