Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce was speaking ahead of the Sheffield Wednesday clash on Saturday and he insisted the club hadn’t given up on a potential Play Off battle this year. Having taken the two nil victory on Saturday lift us into the top ten in the Championship, Bruce would certainly have been pleased with that as he knows the least we have to achieve in the remaining games of the campaign will be a solid top half finish to give us some momentum going into the next campaign where anything less than the automatic spots simply shouldn’t be considered good enough. Manager Steve Bruce has been speaking about the importance of the Aston Villa academy and how the club simply have to avoid another Gary Cahill situation. Three out of four ain’t bad..It was with mixed feelings that I greeted the news that Villa had scratched their seven-year itch and had at last won three games in a row. It was definitely a big sense of relief which predominated but there was a touch of melancholy too when the reminders of the last time it happened were used to illustrate the length of the drought and the scale of Villa’s fall.
