Unoial Villa News…

I was curious after seeing Villa being linked with Portsmouth midfielder Pedro Mendes. I wondered, if he isn’t quite good enough to fit into the Pompey team, how could he be good enough for us. So, I thought why not go to the horses mouth, now Pedro isn’t on my email list, but the Vital Pompey ed is, so I asked the ever cool PompeyRug for his opinions. What did he say? Well click here and you’ll find out won’t you!? Click Here

Martin Laursen and Ashley Young were named in Sky’s team of the season. The players are selected by both Andy Gray and Jamie Redknapp.

I was also asked by The Telegraph for an end of season review, so here it is: Click Here I did put a caveat to the Stiliyan Petrov quote, saying if he started playing regularly like he did towards the end of the season, things would look up and he would make a positive impact on the team but obviously they only had so much space!

Villa have confirmed that both Patrik Berger and Thomas Sorensen are being released as their contracts have come to an end. No news yet on Scott Carson although his loan spell has now obviously ended so is now back with Liverpool. Martin O’Neill said: ‘Patrik has an offer from a Premier League side but he was going to be leaving anyway. Thomas has plans to get his career back on track. Scott is in abeyance. I wouldn’t want to talk about that.’ I’ve been to abeyance, very nice, lovely beach. Oh hang on, that was the Algarve!

Scott Carson has slammed the £10 million price tag that Tom Jones Mini Rafa has placed on his head, and furthermore, with or without him, he believes Villa will go from strength. In a full and frank interview he says he wants to get settled and set up home but doesn’t know where he will be and admits he hasn’t spoken to Liverpool yet. Villa are following up last seasons DVD ‘Proud History and Bright Future’ with an interactive DVD-rom where season ticket holders can renew for next season. The official site explains ‘The club are sending out a DVD-rom, which will offer an online approach to renewal as well as a host of exclusive content.’ And state they will be sent shortly. There is a sneak preview available: Click Here Looks good, although I’m not sure why Ashley Young has a blue condom on his head???!!!

Vital Villan said: Apparently Gabby Agbonlahor is confused as to why he has been picked for the U21 game and the senior England Squad. Stuart Pearce has selected the striker for tonight’s friendly against Wales, and Fabio Capello has him in the squad that will face the USA on May 28 and then Trinidad and Tobago four days later. Yes it’s thoroughly confusing isn’t it. Play for the U21’s tonight and then almost a full fortnight later, he may get a full squad cap. Stuff like this always confuses me! Zat Knight is confident that Villa will improve further next season and although he didn’t have the best of seasons personally, he’s hoping to make fewer mistakes next campaign. Speaking on the official site, Knight said that all the player needs to learn to deal with the pressure and the expectations of next season more than they did this season; that along with quality additions in transfer will mean we can and will build further on our 6th Place finish. ‘We set out aiming to get into Europe and even though we missed out on the UEFA Cup we still have the Intertoto.’ Full quotes: Expectations Of The Knight

Thought for the day: (Viz Letter) I heard on the news that the January storms had cost this country a billion pounds. What an utter waste of money. If anything, they did more harm than good.
