Unoial Villa News…

Vital Villan: Stuart Taylor has had his loan spell with the Bluebirds extended until May 31st of this year (well obviously). Well that’s according to the Cardiff official site, and another website that’s page won’t load but I got the hint from the title. Sadly there is nothing more to this story so sorry for wasting your time with this bit, as all the details are in the article summary. We have no official confirmation yet from our official site and as I still type, the other website’s page still isn’t loading up for me. So I think I’ll stop here and save wasting anymore of my time as well.

AstonVillaFC on the importance of this summer: Villa Summertime!

That was the week that was, by the Sheriff: The Week In Villa #33 (3/4/09 – 10/4/09)

Gareth Barry has singled out Stiliyan Petrov for praise following a great season for the midfielder. He told the official site, ‘Stan has been tremendous. Speak to any fan and Stan will be up there in their thinking for Player of the Season – and rightly so. He has kept it going consistently – it hasn’t been one or two games here or there. He has been excellent throughout the campaign. He has been playing at a high level week-in and week-out. It was obvious what a great player he was when he arrived but he struggled a bit in that first season. But he has put a run of games together this time around to prove to everyone what a great player he is.’

The Daily Star has re-hashed the link to Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour saying he is valued by his club at £15m but MON values the 22-year-old at £7m. I don’t think that is the case, I think MON was saying the other day he won’t pay £15m for a player he see’s the realistic price for being £7million but I didn’t see any quotes from the Villa boss naming any player. Either I’ve missed something or the press have put 2+2 and come out with 5.

Our last poll asked: With rumours doing the rounds on John Carew, what do you think? Seems he is rather popular amongst the Villa faithful as 84% voted JC as a ‘MUST keep’. 6% voted that Villa should ‘try’ to keep him and another 6% were easy either way. That means only 3% didn’t care and 1% would be fine with him being sold at the right price. Full article and quotes from John Carew and MON: John Carew MUST Be Kept At Villa

An interview with John Carew published in the Mirror this week: Carew Loves It At Villa

And as if two articles on JC wasn’t enough, another appears! Vital Villan: John Carew has vowed to maintain his current goalscoring run and in an effort to fire us to European qualification.
Speaking on the official site Carew is obviously pleased to have taken his tally for the season to 13 against Everton, including a nice little record of 5 games in the last 9 games, but like in all interviews with the Big Man, he states that Villa’s form is far more important than his own personal goal tally. ‘It’s a great feeling and you always try to create chances and hopefully the ball goes in the net. ‘Sometimes it goes in the net every time or you can have a period where it hits the goalpost and goes out but that’s life. Both Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor have made the last six in the nominations for the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Also on the list are Johnny Evans (who according to Google is either a Manchester United player or an English archaeologist and geologist born in 1925. Being an investigative journalist I’d deduce he is the former!), Stephen Ireland (Manchester City), Aaron Lennon (Spurs) and Rafael Da Silva (Manchester United).

Vital Villan: ‘It’s not good enough,’ is how Zat Knight has described our defending of late – which to be fair is one way of describing how we’ve conceded 11 goals in 3 games! Full article: Knight’s Brutally Honest Assessment

Vital Villan: Nathan Delboy has said that there wasn’t a chance in hell that Villa would capitulate after going 2 behind against Everton because there’s too much desire and determination in the squad. Speaking on the official site, the youngster expressed his disappointment at not taking all 3 points, but his pleasure at the spirited fightback to secure a point by the end of the match. ‘It was a really good comeback. Some teams would have just collapsed. But this side would never do that – we have too many players with terrific determination and desire. We got our just rewards at the end. We managed a draw and it could even have been a win. A lot of people wouldn’t have given us a prayer when we were two goals behind.’ Full article: http://www.astonvilla.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=7500750 Too Much Character Says Delboy

Martin O’Neill says he has no clue as to where Villa will be this time next season. Article by Vital Villan: O’Neill Honestly Has No Idea

Martin O’Neill has confirmed that is it hugely unlikely that Martin Laursen will play again before the end of the season. ‘Martin is struggling. There’s not much more to say. He’ll be struggling to play again before the end of the season.’ Other injury updates: It Keeps Getting Worse

Vital Celtic have an interesting article on Shaun Maloney and his doomed move to Villa and subsequent departure. Full article: Maloney Wishes He’d Never Moved To Villa

Vital Villa asked for your man of the match votes in the 3-3 thriller with Everton. Shockingly no central defenders rated very highly! The winner was James Milner with 31% after his superb free kick and tireless running. Next up was Nicky Shorey following the shock decision to play a left-back at left-back. It’ll never catch on but the former Reading player got 24% of the votes nevertheless. Stiliyan Petrov was next up with 12%. Full results: Man Of The Match v Everton

Allan Evans, Tony Morley and Gary Shaw will be on Sky show time of our lives on Monday and will be presented by Jeff Stelling at 10pm on Sky Sports 1.

Happy 70th for tomorrow dad!
