Unoial Villa News…

Vital Villa asked whether you’d like to see Manchester United striker Alan Smith move to Villa Park following the latest rumours that Martin O’Neill is hot on the players heals. 50% said yes but there are better options. 13% said yes, he is exactly what we need and 8% said he would be ok, but only ok. That left 27% saying no and 2% unsure.

Meanwhile, we have been linked to 32-year-old Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen. Reports are suggesting that Bolton want around £4.5million but with just one year left on his contract, they’ll struggle to get that.

Craig Gardner is excited about fighting for his place: The young midfielder said: ‘Villa have money to spend and are being linked with a lot of quality players. There is a lot of transfer speculation flying about at the moment. But I will welcome whoever the manager brings in and will look forward to playing alongside them. I will keep my head down and battle to keep my place.’

William Hill have given Villa odds of 14/1 to have the longest unbeaten run again following last seasons achievement. On the flipside we are 66/1 to finish bottom and get relegated, what utterly stupid odds, that would surely be 1000/1 ?!?

Reports are saying that Chelsea will let Shaun Wright-Phillips leave for around £10million. Wait for Spurs, Everton, Middlesbrough and Villa to be linked within record time.

The Birmingham Mail reckon that Villa are at the head of the chase should Ajax agree to sell Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder. Can’t see how or why, as Ajax don’t want to let the player go and as he has 2 years left on his contract, they don’t have to!

Porto defender Bruno Alves agent says he won’t move to Villa Park. His agent Christophe Mongai said: ‘Aston Villa have been watching Bruno but they haven’t spoken to me about him and, as far as I know, they haven’t spoken to the club. He has three years left of his contract and I think he will be staying at Porto.’

Reports in the Birmingham Mail suggest that Steve Bruce is keen to revive his interest in Villa defender Liam Ridgewell, with a bid of about £2 million expected? Apparently he does not think the cross city divide will be a problem and the story also suggests that Ridgewell would not be to worried about the move, if he isn’t going to be a regular at Villa Park.
