Unoial Villa News…

It was confirmed earlier today that Stiliyan Petrov has signed a new four year contract keeping him at Villa until June 2013.

Stiliyan Petrov says he never doubted that he’d extend his contract at Villa. The Bulgarian who put pen to paper this morning said on AVTV: ‘I am delighted. It feels great. We’ve been talking about the contract for quite a few months and I’ve had a lot of people asking me about it. But I am really happy with the way the club handled it all. They left me to concentrate on the games and focus my mind on playing football. After a few meetings, everything has now been finalised and, in all honesty, I never had any doubts about it. When we started talking, the club assured me it was looking to build and become even more successful. That was enough for me.’ Full article: Petrov Wants To Pleasure Us

Nicky Shorey has told the Express & Star that the season has been a success for Villa despite not being able to stay in the top four until the end, saying that the fact we challenged them for so long is a positive thing. ‘It was a shame that we tailed off a little bit, but hopefully that experience will stand us in good stead for next season and the following seasons after that. I think it’s been a good season, no matter what. The way the lads have been has been really good.’ Full article: Click Here

Vital Villa asked, in our first end of season award poll, for your young player of the season. To be fair to the three lowest, Brad Guzan and Nathan Delfouneso on 2% and Craig Gardner on 3%, they weren’t regulars throughout the season and in fact hardly featured! So of the three main contenders, we had Ashley Young, James Milner and Gabby Agbonlahor. Ashley Young came out the clear winner with 57% of the votes after a great season. Ok it has tapered off slightly towards the end but he has certainly put himself on the map and helped Villa make a charge for the top four. Milner was next and Gabby 3rd with just 5%.
