A report in the Daily Mail today suggested that Villa are looking at smashing their record transfer fee (£9.5million for Juan Pablo Angel during the John Gregory era) and bring in former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan. The report suggests that the Uruguay striker has an exit clause in his contract meaning he can leave Villarreal if a £15 million bid is made.

Lee Hendrie is still trying to find a new club for the forthcoming season having become a free agent this summer. He has been linked to all comers but has yet to agree a deal. I must admit I am surprised he hasn’t been snapped up, he might not be the best but he certainly isn’t the worst and some of the clubs could do worse for free! He also says that Derby would be his preferred destination amidst loads of links to Championship sides.

Villa have announced that the first set of 500 season tickets for £200 (£50 for under 16’s) sold out the very day they went on sale. The second set of 500 are available on Friday. Head of Consumer Sales Nicola Keye told www.avfc.co.uk: ‘We expected this sort of response – the North Stand lower tickets offer superb value for money, so we anticipated a big take up. The idea is to add to the atmosphere at Villa Park and if we have home supporters behind both goals we’ll do just that.’ The official site have also posted the sale dates as:
Villa Value customers Friday June 22 (next 500) General Sale On Monday 25 June (NB: Villa Value customers are supporters who purchased Villa Value tickets in the North Stand last season.)

Former Villa winger wizard Tony Morley has pinpointed Ashley Young to make a major impact at Villa next season. He highlighted the young players game against Sheffield United and said Ashley is ‘one to watch’ for the 2007/8 season. Ray Wilkins was also recently full of praise for the player who has been representing England in the U21’s European Championship. And in a lovely finish, Tony Morley added: ‘There’s a lot of reasons to be optimistic at Villa and Ashley Young is one of them.’ Happy days, now lets have some more players!!! According to The Birmingham Mail, Martin O’Neill might return for our former goalkeeper Boaz Myhill. Now I’m not usually right about anything, you may well have noticed, but I said at the time we let him go what a mistake that was! You have no idea how good it feels to have finally got something spot on, only taken me 38 years! Vital Hull have covered this story, so I’ll stop my rambling right about…. NOW. According to The Times, Feyenoord have said Royston Drenthe is not for sale. The midfielder, who has been playing for Holland in the European Under-21 Championship, has been linked to Villa.

Strange game this football business isn’t it? Patrik Berger was being linked to loan move to Oldham Athletic. Why I hear you ask!? Their site has now said the move hasn’t worked out. Full details: Click Here

A rumour on the Fulham official site (in the forum) says that Aaron Hughes is having a medical and moving to the club. As said, that is from a forum with a ‘my aunts cousin has a contact’. Might be true but nothing in official reports.

Thought for the day: A cardboard belt would be a waist of paper.
