Holte End hero and all round good egg Ian Taylor thinks next season could be fascinating with others pushing Villa all the way in their bid to break the top four. The former Villa midfielder told the official site that he expects Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City to join the battle with Villa and Everton. ‘Whether they will be Champions League I don’t know but they will definitely be challenging the likes of Villa.’

Curtis Davies has told the official site he is happy to be having a break and resting up for next season. ‘I was looking forward to the summer, not so much to be going on holidays and trotting the globe, just to have a break. It’s not even down to tiredness, sometimes you just need to do a few different things to put things back into perspective so that when you come back next season you start right again. I’d never been involved in a season as long as the last one. It began in July. I didn’t manage to play the Intertoto games but, after that, I played against Hafnarfjordur so it was a very early season. We go into another European campaign next year which could potentially be even longer because of the amount of games.’

It’s a funny old game this being a football fan, it really is! What do we do all season? Obsess about our teams. Then the summer comes along and we all take a well earnt break don’t we? NO, we don’t! We obsess about who we’ll sign, when we’ll sign them, will they be any good, will the other teams purchases be better… why do we do it to ourselves, it can’t be good for the old ticker can it? Then again, it is very good for the websites and papers…! We asked in our last poll, just in case you started to wonder what the hell I was on about above: When will Villa make their first signing?! Seems 41% are hopeful that the first half of July will be when we get a player or two in. Full results: So When Will Villa Make The First Signing?

Vital Villan: Gabby Agbonlahor will undergo scans at some point today to find out the extent of the calf injury he suffered in last nights U-21 victory over Spain. After limping off in the first half of our 2-0 win, the striker is now waiting to find out if he will be passed fit for the clash against Germany on Monday. Speaking to the official site, England U21 boss Stuart Pearce said: ‘I think Gabby’s ok. He tightened up both of his calves. He felt it just before the warm up. We’ll wait for the dust to settle. You hope they are alright and then you make a call and prepare them for Germany on Monday.’

Another great night for the England U21’s albeit a mixed night for the Villa boys. Gabby Agbonlahor hobbled off injured not long after James Milner missed a penalty for a chance to put England 1 up. Milner however didn’t let that knock him off his stride and he scored later to put Villa 2 up and sealed our progression into the Semi finals of the Euro Championships. They face Germany in the final game of the group so hopefully they can just relax and enjoy winning that one with qualification secured. Video highlights: Click Here

Martin O’Neill back and hopefully refreshed from a holiday in the States, has told the official site that Villa are ‘actively pursuing’ new signings. The Villa boss promised: ‘We’re on the lookout. We want to strengthen the side. We have lost Gareth but we are hoping to be in a position to replace him. Having looked at the market and watched what has developed with the major transfers – Kaka and Ronaldo particularly – you can definitely say it’s interesting times.’ Full details: Martin O’Neill Says Villa Actively Looking
