Unoial Villa News…

The Express&Star have got straight to the root of all things football by talking to Carlos Cuellar about his new beard! Regular readers will no doubt remember that we retired the end of season award ‘the best beard at Villa award so Olof Mellberg wins something whilst at Villa’ but it seems Carlos is looking to take the non shaving route to fame at Villa also! ‘Am I liking the look? Yes, I think so. Now I don’t have to worry about shaving all the time! Olof’s beard was longer than mine will be though, I’ll be trimming mine, but the beard is here to stay. Olof was a great defender for Aston Villa, he was very popular with supporters, but I never like to compare myself with other players. We are different kinds of defenders.’ This is the sort of reporting we want, nothing to do with all the silverware and rumours, we need beard talk! Full article: www.expressandstar.com

Steve Sidwell has told the official site he is looking to be amongst the goals this season for Villa after kicking off with a goal against the Posh. ‘I was pleased to get on the scoresheet but it’s all about fitness at the moment. It’s all about getting in position to score goals – not just that but to set others up as well. You get that feel back for it and by the time the season starts if selected in the starting eleven I can show that on the big stage. But everyone’s shirt is up for grabs and there is healthy competition and that’s what you need.’

Martin O’Neill stated that he wants new players in but refuses to panic, especially not to rush players in time for the trip to Spain and the Peace Cup this Thursday. He explained, following the usual fan and press frenzy for transfer talk and action: ‘I don’t get anxious. These things take time, like everything else, and you want to try and be as right as possible.’ He must leave the anxiety to the fans who get beside themselves through the summer…!!!??? The article does say that MON is more than willing to fly back over from their training camp in Spain to get a signature if a deal is lined up whilst he is away.
