Shane Lowry spoke to the official site about his second half debut as sub in the Europa loss v Rapid Vienna. ‘It’s mixed emotions for me. It’s my competitive debut so I’m happy about that but I’d much rather the team had have won. That would have made it better for me. I was quite happy with my debut but I it’s a pity about the result. They’ve got some good fans here who make a hell of a noise. I’ve been on the bench a few times last season and I got involved n most of the games in pre-season so I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I’d be. Hopefully next week at Villa Park we can turn it around and I’m sure we’ve got the quality in the team to do it. It’s only 1-0 at Villa Park we should make it a fortress. Hopefully our fans can make it as noisy as the Rapid fans did.’ I’m sure some fans will make it very noisy, trouble is it might be with boos!!!!!! Hey, yam gorra laff?!

John Carew recovered from his toe injury which kept him from being on the bench v Wigan but had a virus to keep him out of the Europa game in case you were wondering where he was.

Steve Wade: It means nothing to me – Vienna! Well, actually, despite Midge Ure’s plaintive reassurances, it did – matter that is. Going one-nil down in the first minute, seems to substantiate more than a few claims this week, that Villa are in deep doo-doo and that no matter how much fairy-dust the optimists sprinkle, things look rather less than great. Nigel Hokey-Cokey and Steve Sidwell, it was claimed in the Mirror, both went to the manager after Fabian Delph and Marc Albrighton were preferred over them in the match against Wigan at the weekend. From where I sit (right by the bench) it was clear to see that NRC was far from happy through the game and after young Mac Albrighton was brought on instead of him, with Sidwell by then on the pitch in place of Delph, he looked hopping mad. In fact, to be fair, he looked incredulous. Villa Midfielders Left ‘Dismayed’
