Blimey, this is strange. Following the departure of Richard FitzGerald as CEO, the COO of Aston Villa has now also departed. The club have released a very short statement saying Michael Cunnah has left to ‘seek new challenges’ and the club go on to thank him and wish him good luck for the future.

Pre-season friendlies:
Villa play Lincoln City at the Sincil Bank on July 15 (ko 7.45pm) Ticket news and prices will be announced at a later date.
Reading on Saturday August 2 (ko 3pm) at the Madejski Stadium.
We will no doubt also face Walsall and there is talk of a home game v Porto.

Our last poll asked: Where you happy with last season? Seems a massive majority (86%) were very happy as they voted yes, massive strides forward. That left 12% voting yes but could have been better and just 1% each for ‘average, cup runs ruined it’ and ‘no, I expected more’.

Martin O’Neill is looking at different options for next season explaining on the official site: ‘Teams do get people behind the ball. We saw that with Sunderland and other teams at Villa Park. You have to have another dimension to your game, which at this minute is something that we would have to work on greatly. The ability to break teams down at home who do not give you any space behind.’

Gabby Agbonlahor’s might have been given a bit more of a chance for a senior England cap as Michael Owen has had to pull out of the England squad for our friendlies v USA and Trinidad & Tobago.

Zat Knight says Villa will be under more pressure next season after our impressive showing last time around. ‘Next season is really going to be a massive season. We’ve had a good season and everyone’s going to have their eyes on us. If we can repeat and do better than this season then it will be a good year for us. We were ready for a break after a good season. Hopefully we can come back stronger than ever next season. We know what to do for next season and we know what we need to add to.’

Thought for the day: ‘They show you how detergents take out bloodstains. I think if you’ve got a T-shirt with bloodstains all over it, maybe your laundry isn’t your biggest problem!’
