Last week UEFA published their Club Licensing Benchmarking Report and one of the telling conclusions from the study was that the English Championship polls third across Europe in the table of most watched leagues. The Premier League came in top spot with total attendances of more than 13million, with the German Bundesliga in second place, but the Championship’s figure of more than 11million puts it in third (moving up from fourth in the last report), higher than Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A and the French Ligue 1. Vital Villa are proud to have the legend that is Rob Bishop contributing the occasional article on the bygone times at Aston Villa The numbing news of Cyrille Regis`s passing sent my mind racing back to the heady summer of 1991, a time which will will always be remembered for Ron`s Revolution. It was the year Ron Atkinson became manager of Aston Villa – and life with Big Ron was like nothing the claret-and-blue faithful had ever known. Read more: Ron’s Revolution.. By The Legend Rob Bishop

Looks like most of the transfer talk relating to Aston Villa, apart from wild or ridiculous speculation on click-bait sites, is about exits. It makes sense, there are fringe players who need regular first team football and can`t get it at Villa, former AFC Bournemouth legend Tommy Elphick for one. And then there is the player and his gate who won`t get a look in at Villa now. Bruce has made it clear he isn’t in his plans so Villa might as well get some money back for him, despite the massive hit financial hit. That player being Ross McCormack obviously. Firing them in down under but lets be honest, that league is not exactly top quality is it? Read more: Who Is Being Linked In And Out Of Villa Park Today?

My first ever visit to VP as a kid was met by a sign saying the match was off. Poor dad, he’d built my brother and me up for all the excitement and then had to deal with two hyped kids on the way home!

Aston Villa have been handed a three to four day break by manager Steve Bruce ahead of our preparations for Sheffield United next week. The Birmingham Mail quote Bruce as saying that with an upturn in form and no game this coming weekend following our victory over Barnsley, the players and the staff would all get a few days off as a reward for our current run. The reality is it’s more than that though as Villa have had a virus spread through the camp the last week and with it hitting both players and staff, some recuperation time and hopefully clearing the virus out of Bodymoor Heath makes all the sense in the world. Aston Villa are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action. The performance by Scott Hogan in the three one victory over Barnsley at the weekend at Villa Park was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.
