Steve Sidwell told the Express&Star that he is looking to take the chance of replacing Gareth Barry, he said the departure was a big loss ‘But, as the saying goes, if one door closes then another one opens. There’s a space up for grabs. It’s down to me to take it. Hopefully it will be me who takes advantage. So the challenge is there for us all.’

Brad Friedel is sure that Villa will add to the ranks telling Sky Sports News that Villa will be adding to the squad this season insisting we need to if we want to keep hold of our best players at the club. ‘We want to try to get as high up the table as we can. Mike Field: Barry Bannan has been pleased to be involved in Villa’s pre season friendlies so far, but hasn’t been quite as pleased with his own form. This is something he’s hoping to rectify if he gets the opportunity for more run outs during the Peace Cup tournament. Speaking on the official site today, he admitted that he is loving being involved with the first teamers on a regular basis and whilst his performances so far haven’t been earth shattering, he says it’s all a steep learning curve and with more experience he’ll hopefully become the player we all think he can.
