New signing Leandro Bacuna has shocked the Villa faithful and revealed the players aren’t hungry anymore…they have plenty of energy in the dressing room. Paul Lambert must have resorted to a popular energy ridden breakfast cereal! See: Bacuna – Confidence Is High

Stiliyan Petrov has backed Villa to finish high in the league this campaign, as long as Christian Benteke can replicate his form. After a summer of shennanigans, a transfer request, additional time off, the withdrawl of a transfer request and then the signing of a new contract – Christian Benteke can certainly be accused of making an impact over and above the impression he made on the pitch last season. Our new U21 coach, our former Captain and our forever No 19 said: Petrov Backs Villa To Finish On A High

Paul Lambert still isn’t paying much attention to results in pre season, this time taking confidence from Christian Benteke’s 45 minute return to the pitch. Villa went down 2-0 to Luton and whilst they took their few chances well, the result doesn’t reflect the game, the chances we had or our second half performance especially – but that’s football for you when you don’t find the net yourself. Gordon Cowans has said that he’s hoping a number of his current U21 charges can cause Paul Lambert a headache this coming season and work their way into his plans as he’s expecting big things from a few of them. Speaking to the Tamworth Herald following our 3-2 loss at The Lamb the other day, Cowans said he wasn’t looking at the result, because he thought the performance showed that a few players were really ready to kick on in the coming months. Current poll: Should Paul Lambert Also Get A New Contract?

Villa Grizzly: Regardless of your view of the manager, no one can deny that he is a strict disciplinarian who expects the highest level of professionalism from Villa’s players, both on and off the pitch, from preparation to performance. Players who fail to perform and justify their wages will soon find themselves in Villa’s aptly named, ‘Bomb Squad.’ That’s what the likes of Hutton and Bent have been calling their exit-gang. It fits. They are being bombed out of the club though if Villa want to avoid paying around £4m in golden hand shakes they may need to get creative if they are to to free up funds for the Lambert war chest. The Mirror have Villa and Sunderland linked to Serbian midfielder Zdravko Kuzmanovic. See: Serbian Midfielder Linked – AVFC Transfer Talk

Another player has signed an extended deal at Aston Villa. This time Matt Lowton who has signed a four year deal keeping him at Villa until the summer of 2017. See: Lowton Volleys Home A New Four Year Deal

Christian Benteke has withdrawn his transfer request (well we didn’t really accept it did we) and put pen to paper on a new deal keeping him at the club until next season…sorry…contractually until the summer of 2017. See: Request Withdrawn, Extension Signed

Following our 2-2 draw with Wycombe earlier today, Paul Lambert has said it’s still about getting minutes on the pitch for the players and not the result that counts. See: Lambert – It’s Still About Minutes On The Pitch

Tamworth 3 – 2 Aston Villa U21s
Wycombe 2 – 2 Aston Villa
