Paul Lambert still isn’t paying much attention to results in pre season, this time taking confidence from Christian Benteke’s 45 minute return to the pitch. Villa went down 2-0 to Luton and whilst they took their few chances well, the result doesn’t reflect the game, the chances we had or our second half performance especially – but that’s football for you when you don’t find the net yourself. Gordon Cowans has said that he’s hoping a number of his current U21 charges can cause Paul Lambert a headache this coming season and work their way into his plans as he’s expecting big things from a few of them. Speaking to the Tamworth Herald following our 3-2 loss at The Lamb the other day, Cowans said he wasn’t looking at the result, because he thought the performance showed that a few players were really ready to kick on in the coming months.
