Martin Laursen says it is important that Villa bounce back against Sunderland. He told the Birmingham Mail, “We wanted to do well in the Carling Cup and we picked a very strong team on Wednesday so we are very disappointed. But we have a game tomorrow and we have a very good chance to bounce back. I hope that people don`t think that we have a bad team now and think we play some bad football because we have done so well. We had a brilliant week last week. The cup was a big disappointment because we really went for it but still we are fourth in the league. We had a very good result in the UEFA Cup. Okay we did not do well against QPR but everything else has been good so far this season.”

Vital Villan: Many eyebrows were raised last night when it was announced that Gareth Barry would lead the squad again. Martin O’Neill’s attitude was simply that ‘in the scheme of things it`s really unimportant.’ With Laursen and Reo-Coker rested, Barry became the next obvious choice, but O’Neill has said that Laursen will continue as club captain at the weekend. Vital Villan: Brad Guzan has spoken about a mix of emotions on the official site today after making his debut, but seeing us crash out of the Carling Cup again. Guzan had very little to do all match to be fair, the few things asked of him he handled competently. I’m sure all those who have seen the goal will agree with me, there was nothing he could’ve done about it. ‘I was pleased to make my first start but I am desperately disappointed we lost the game. Any time you make an appearance, it’s great but when you come into a competition like this and you can’t get a result, it’s frustrating. It’s particularly annoying because I thought we were the better team and created the better chances. Vital Villan: This has everyone confused now doesn’t it, do I mean the crap TV X Factor my missus forces on our TV every week, or not? It could be the X Factor as a buzz word, for something special this season….but sadly it’s the former. Speaking on the official site today Gareth Barry took time out to talk about Phil Bardsley ahead of our match against Sunderland. I’m sure everyone remembers Bardsley, who Philled in at right back whilst on loan from Man U for a period. But what does this have to do with the title, well if you give me a second I’ll get there…. Vital Villan: In what seems to be a new feature on the official site, Martin O’Neill has given a pep talk preview ahead of the Sunderland match. I say new feature, but he could’ve been doing this since he arrived at the club – I’m not the most observant. Anyway, O’Neill has called for the team to put Wednesday’s Deja vu behind them and build on our league form, he always praised the team for taking four points from a possible six so far on home soil. ‘We have to go out there – put the disappointment of Wednesday to one side – and go and try and win the game. We now have to focus on the excellent league form. The Premier League is the be-all-and-end-all in the grand scheme of things anyway.
