Mark Delaney has suffered a set back to his knee injury and admits the timing couldn’t have been worse. ‘I am still not happy with my knee. Maybe it needs more time to recover. I am coming to the end of my contract this summer, so the timing of the injury could not have been worse.’

One report has linked Aston Villa with Colchester right-back Greg Halford. Halford is at the end of his contract in the summer.

Lille are being linked with Aston Villa midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba. Jumper Jumper told his site: ‘I want to take a little minute of my precious time to try to make clearer my situation because there have been a number of rumours about my career and transfer. I am actually in Europe where I will meet with clubs interested in my services.’

Interesting to see if Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie now returns to Villa Park or if Stoke (or anyone) are able to extend his loan or take him permanently. With a run of eight games without a win for Villa, Martin O’Neill has promised the Villa faithful: ‘We’ll get back to winning ways for you.’ Adding: ‘We’re not getting the rub of the green at the moment. Famous last words, but I think it will turn. We’ve got to keep believing what we were doing is the right thing.
