Transfer rumours for today including a player from Real Madrid and a Romanian defender: Aston Villa Transfer Rumours

Another snippet I’ve just seen involves a claim that Aston Villa are tracking Mohamed Sarr who is a defender for Standard Liege….which is nice.

Martin O’Neill has joined the debate following Bolton Wanderer’s chairman Phil Gartside floated the idea of a Premier League Two which would include bringing in Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers. MON doesn’t talk about the other proposals – sorry, that should read wretched-closed-shop-do-it-and-kill-at-least-10-football-league-clubs proposals – but does back letting the Jocks into the Premiership. I’d not be bothered, let them in, but only after they play their way up all the leagues like everyone else has to! Full quotes from MON: MON Wants Celtic & Rangers In Premiership

Here is a date for Villa fans diaries! Villa reserves will play Sunderland reserves at Villa Park in the Barclays Premier Reserve League play-off on Thursday May 21. Kick off to decide the champions between the North and South leagues will be 7pm.

Vital Villan: Martin O’Neill is expecting to have Gabby and Hokey Cokey back in contention for the Hull game. Speaking on the official site, he said: ‘Nigel and Gabby should be fine. Gabby has trained – although he did train last week to be fair and still missed the Bolton game. It was a precaution that he didn’t play at the weekend because he just felt it. But I think he will be fine for Hull. Nigel has come in this week and has gradually done some work. He is feeling much, much better which is good news. He should be fine too.’ Full article: Double Fitness Boost For Hull

voiceoftheholte has his say on why Villa have faded in the latter part of the season. Do The Villa Stats Lie?

Luke Young has complimented Nicky Shorey in the Birmingham Mail, the right-back who filled in at left-back for the left-back, who was left-back in the changing room (well, on the bench but that isn’t as funny) … are you following this?… said: ‘I’m glad he has got his chance now and I hope he stays in now until the end of the season. I was asked to play left-back for a good number of games in a row when we have got an England international out of the side. I am not sure the reasons why and the manager makes the decisions and you respect those. All I know is Nicky Shorey is a great left-back and I am sure a lot of teams would want him.’

Brad Friedel says it is crucial that Villa finish in fifth place after a good season but he had hoped for at least one better! Full quotes: Close But No Cigar For Brad Friedel

Thought for the day: ‘Doc I can’t stop singing The Green, Green Grass of Home’ ‘Ah, you have Tom Jones syndrome. ‘Is it common? ‘ ‘It’s not unusual.’
