Blimey, they can move quick when they want to, Gavin McCann has been given a new three year deal. Sorenson is also thought to be about to be offered an extended deal. DOL said: ‘Gavin is the kind of unsung hero that is sometimes only appreciated by the players. You don’t realise what he contributes until he is missing from the team.’

Meanwhile our preliminary results are in with turnover down and cash in the bank at a far from impressive £0.6 million. Merchandise sales are up and amortisation is reduced. Villa lost £2.5million before tax compared to £10.7million in 2004, turnover fell by 7.6% to £51.6million. The merit award was obviously less for finishing 10th, but without bringing in the right players, that situation won’t change. (Mind you, I’m excited to see what Phillips can do for us). And that is all I can be bothered to say on the matter, any statement or comment would purely be a repeat. If I was the board, especially the Chairman I’d be embarrassed and I’d be resigning.

The AGM is also set for Friday 14th October at 11.30am (a time when they know the majority of shareholders can’t attend due to work commitments. Also, still no shareholders forum. Something to hide guys?

Ellis is talking about returning and giving the manager maximum backing because ‘we all want regular European football’ Talk is cheap, action isn’t.

Alan Stubbs is available on a free transfer, we need another defender, you do the maths.

I can’t remember where I read this but German side Schalke are thought unlikely to match the valuation of Baros, maybe giving us a clear run for his signature. Only niggling doubt is the fact he was kept out of the Champions League game so as not to cup tie him. If he was coming to us that wouldn’t matter?!

Thought for the day: You’re not late, you just have a rescheduled arrival time.
