Very bad news for Wilfred Bouma. He has had a set-back in his rehab and will now definitely be out for the rest of the season. On the flip side of that, there are not many games left, it would be asking a massive amount for him to come straight back to his best and strangely, Nicky Shorey is actually starting to play like the bloke I thought we`d signed in the first place. Hopefully Freddie can just get sorted and come back for pre-season then start again – ideally as good as new!

We get drawn against hometown team Malaga in the Peace Cup, and also Celtic, which obviously creates the odd headline relating to MON. Celtic still need to win their league in order to qualify; I am not 100% sure why and nowhere seems to explain it, but I assume it is relating to CL qualifiers.

Villa 1 – 1 WHAM! Just like the week before, this was a good game where a draw was a disappointing result. Strangely, both teams should have arguably scored more goals than us and Everton the week before. I thought Petrov and Barry were both excellent yet again; I fear what may happen if Barry leaves, but I am also getting slightly concerned about Petrov and the lack of signing a new deal. In terms of the bigger picture, that realistically dashes the already slim hopes that we would get 4th. It is still mathematically possible, but then it is still mathematically possible for the Albion to stay up…

In a related point, some Villa fans booed. Why they did that is beyond me. I am convinced that most of the idiots that boo are the type of people who were not even coming down to Villa Park prior to Randy Lerner. There are a couple of people that sit in the row behind me (who don`t sit together, they just both happen to be in earshot) who only – and I mean ONLY – say something when it is negative. Why even bother attending? The one blokes face at the end of the game was so angry and hate-filled… why? Because we drew with West Ham? Mate, honestly, if your life is that bad then leave your wife or quit your job or whatever your problem is. But to me, going to Villa Park should be about supporting the Villa, not getting spewing hate and having a go at the players.

Sunday, 19th April

We are linked with a few players, what with being a Sunday and all that. Links include Micah Richards, Joleen Lescott and Marcos Angeleri – no I don`t know either… apparently he is a right-sided Argentine defender (but can also play left or centre-back) who plays for Estudiantes de La Plata – and I am sure that these and many other rumours will keep building until September 1st.

MON says we can`t compete financially with the top 4. This to me seems like a bit of a nonsense, given the debts that other clubs are in. Maybe he is just playing a crafty game ahead of the summer, maybe he is being honest and we don`t have the money we thought we did, maybe he doesn`t realise the debts the top4 have, maybe he knows more about them clubs than I do, maybe he… you get the point!

The reserves team moved a step closer to championship glory with a 2-1 in over Fulham. Gary Gardner come on as sub and scored a free-kick with his very first touch of the game, Michael Uwezu equalised soon after. Jonathan Hogg got the winner after good play from Delfounso.

Further reports come out in various sources about Martin Laursen needing surgery and possibly retiring. Nothing has been confirmed by the club or the player but I think we all fear the worst.

Nicky Shorey says he is unclear about the future and whether or not he will stay at the club. Essentially he is right by saying it is out of hands, although as with most players, I am sure he could get a move if he kicked up enough of a fuss. The bottom line though is that he is in the team, playing reasonably well and we need to add to the squad, not deplete it.

In other news, Mbark Boussoufa of Anderlecht responds to rumours that we are interested in signing him by saying we are a top team and that he has been following us all season. I’m sure he has!

Wednesday, 22nd April

In light of the Laursen reports, rumours about Richards and Lescott surface again. I want both of them!

A couple of places also link us to Maor Buzaglo (that almost sounds like a character out of an American drama series… “Mayor Buzaglo is the most corrupt man I have ever met”… Anyway…) who apparently is 21 and plays in midfield for Maccabi Tel Aviv. Okay then!

Tobias Mikaelsson goes on trial at Hartepool.

Thursday, 23rd April

Happy St George`s Day!

So today the news is pretty quiet, it amounts to MON saying that he hopes and/or thinks that Stilyian Petrov, Gareth Barry and John Carew all stay, and that Gabriel Agbonlahor is nearing a return to fitness and may be available for Bolton. Oh and season ticket holders have a three month option when it comes to renewing.

On to the weekend we start to look then, and surely we have to win soon… don`t we?! So I will go and say I actually will PREDICT a win at Bolton. Come on you Villa boys!
