Curtis Davies says he is not the man to replace Martin Laursen. While I could take an easy pop here at Davies, I`ll just say that Laursen is very difficult to replace. I got very frustrated with young Curtis on more than one occasion last season, and I just hope that he spends more time on looking to work on his own shortcomings rather than filling the shoes of ‘The Lionheart`.

So, what is happening in the transfer world today? Nothing official, of course, but if you believe everything you read then (apart from being an idiot) you`ll believe that Marlon is off to either Hull or ‘Boro. If it is the latter, then David Wheater may move the opposite way. Didn`t I talk about this yesterday? Sigh.

Also, you`ll believe that Tom Huddlestone is on his way. One internet site even runs an ‘exclusive` that he is to sign today or tomorrow.

No Huddlestone, then. Shock, eh?

The Masters took place tonight. Wolves won it again, beating us in the final – again! Damn them Dingles, eh 😉 I only got to Sky+ it, so I haven`t watched it tonight.

Speaking of former players, Juan Pablo Angel will be a guest blogger for the official site next season. This made me smile. I always liked JPA, and felt a bit sorry for him that he mostly played for below-par Villa sides.

Huddlestone is still being linked. David Bentley and Jermaine Jenas are, too. The Bentley rumour in particular is a strong one. Is it just me or is anyone else sick to the back teeth of hearing about us being in for Spurs players? I don`t actually think any of them are bad players, I am just sick of hearing about them, and while the Ashley Young and/or John Carew going the other way rumours were amusing at first, they are fast coming very, very boring.

Speaking of John Carew, MON says he doesn`t want him to go anywhere. Carew has also said he doesn`t want to go anywhere. That wont stop lazy journalism suggesting otherwise, though.

Matthew Upson, Philippe Senderos, Tuncay and Peter Crouch are all linked, as well. Zat Knight is again linked with going the other way.

Apparently representatives of Michael Owen have sent out a 34-page brochure to us and others with details of why they should sign him. I might send out one for myself!

I have not got round to watching the Masters yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Monday, 15th June

Right, watched it. How good was Carbone?! Clearly still playing and good enough to do a job for a lower league side over here, which apparently is what he wants to do. I just hope he plays for us again next year! Performances were okay from most players, David Norton contributed little though and looked like a man who should pack it in. Harsh, but true! Mark Draper stupidly gave the ball away for the Wolves winner, which was a bit disappointing. The best moments (other than the performance from Carbone) though were the cracking goals from lil` Alan Wright! Good entertainment again, I keep saying I will go next year, so hopefully in 2010 I will!

Okay, so back to the current team and both James Milner and Gabby Agbonlahor played well for the England U-21s earlier. Gabby set up the first goal, and Milner set up the second as England beat Finland 2-1 despite going down to ten men in the first half. Well done lads.

There are more transfer rumours but nothing new, so why bother discussing them? *Yawns*

Tuesday, 16th June

According to the Sun, we are holding talks with David Bentley. They actually have quotes from the player. Progress!

Wednesday, 17th June

Or is it? The story is dismissed, but this time without any quotes or even a source, so maybe it is all part of some ploy. Who knows? Do people even care anymore?

The fixtures come out this morning. We start with a home game against Wigan. I suppose it could be worse but then we haven`t beaten them at Villa Park since they got promoted. First away game comes out as West Ham but we will be looking to qualify for the group stage of the Europa League around that time, so instead it will be a trip to Anfield. We finish with a home game (on my birthday, if you care. No? Really? Okay…) at Blackburn, with the last away game coming the week before against Man Citeh. Wouldn`t it be nice to go there and get a really important win? 😉

We`re linked with Royston Drenthe. The Real Madrid left-back is believed to be part of the apparent ‘summer sale` that is about to happen at the Bernabeu.

Thursday, 18th June

MON comes back and makes some typically cagey comments about transfers. He also says we will miss Gareth Barry and wishes him all the best.

Further transfer links include Sol Cambell, Miguel (Valencia right-back), a NRC/Huddlestone swap and Ashley Young leaving.

James Milner misses a penalty but scores the second as England beat Spain 2-0 in the Euros. This means we qualify for the semi-final, and Jimmy will miss the last group game through a second yellow card. I`m sure that wasn`t deliberate, wink wink! Unfortunately Gabby limped off in the first half with a calf injury, but hopefully he`ll be okay. Craig Gardner replaced Milner towards the end, so got a bit of action for himself. Hopefully he`ll start against the Germans on Monday.

That`s all. Sorry folksÂ…!
