Summer signing Anwar El Ghazi has had a mixed start to life at Aston Villa, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

Having come into B6 on a loan spell from Lille late on in August following our takeover by Nassef Sawaris and Wes Edens, the 23-year-old Dutchman has made five appearances for us so far and he scored his maiden club goal in the heavy loss to Sheffield United at the beginning of the month.

He’s certainly showed flashes of what he’s capable of, but equally given our overall performance levels, he can go missing. That’s not a criticism as he’s certainly not the only one, but he at least has the excuse of still adjusting to the club and country.

With him coming in for some criticism from those with less patience than others in the fanbase, in the buildup to Bristol City plenty are backing him for quick improvement, if we start using him correctly.

Unfortunately in the current climate, little can be discussed without the Steve Bruce debate coming into it as the above ably demonstrates.
