Time To Get Back On Track

Martin O’Neill is looking for us to remain at our attacking best against Bolton, but he’s looking to our defence to keep things tight for a change.

Speaking on the official site O’Neill has praised the attacking quality of our young side? (what was the average age last match?) but calls on the defence to get back to their best and to stop leaking so many soft goals, especially in the final 10 minutes.

‘We have played brilliantly in the last few games going forward. We have scored goals against Manchester United and Everton – which other teams have struggled to do – and we hit one past West Ham. In all honesty, we could scored five or six more in that game without any real trouble.

‘Unfortunately, at the moment, we are leaking one or two goals at bad moments – and it’s costing us.

‘However, the standard of football has been very, very high indeed. We now need to play with the same gusto going forward but iron things out defensively. That will give us a chance.

‘We now need to get back on track and get back to winning football games again. We were doing that fairly regularly some months ago.

‘Overall, we have played very well indeed. The crowd have gone away from the last three games absolutely delighted with our play but obviously frustrated with the results.’

The last few games have seen a marked improvement in our form again and it’s a shame that effort from the team hasn’t yielded the results to make life a little more comfortable.

Only a few games left now, and we need to make them count.
