To Loan Or Not To Loan?

England under-21 midfielder Peter Whittingham is apparently attracting interest from clubs who want him on loan.

The 22-year-old left sided player has struggled to get a regular place in the Villa squad and according to icbrum he might be being for a further loan spell.

On loan deals O’Neill said: ‘I’m obviously very torn. The great thing about Lee Hendrie is that we can get him back at any given minute, and while he is still playing it is great news and we will see how we cope. Ideally it would be great to give people that month out there because we have a heavy Christmas programme.’

Gary Cahill was also recently linked with a host of Championship clubs but with the injury to Martin Laursen that now looks very unlikely.

O’Neill added: ‘There was Cahill thinking that Laursen was there in front if him and that he would need to be getting out on loan. I could understand the feeling totally and it would have been great for him to get four or five games in a month. Then suddenly Laursen gets injured and Hughes is out for a week or two and he gets his chance. But that was always the concern. It is the same in that we’ve had loads of teams asking about young Whitts as well.’
