Gary Cahill has joined Liam Ridgewell in securing his future at Aston Villa.

The 20-year-old central defender told the official site that

‘There was never any doubt in my mind. I was always going to sign a new deal. I said from the word go that I wanted to stay.’

Adding he is glad that the speculation is now over.

‘I’ve signed on for three years and hopefully it will be longer – hopefully I’m looking forward to many appearances for Villa. It’s a relief. It’s something I always wanted to do and I said at the back end of last season that I hoped it would all be sorted in the summer. Now it has been sorted and I can just carry on and concentrate on playing football.’

Meanwhile Liam Ridgwell is sure that the young group of Villa players can start challenging next season following last seasons nightmare.
‘It was a disappointing season, no-one would argue with that. It was particularly disappointing for the youngsters because we’ve come through at the same time. We don’t like losing, we’ve not been used to it in the reserves and the youth sides so hopefully we can bring a winning mentality to the side next season. We all learned from our experiences last season and hopefully we will be better for it.’

And looking ahead says

‘The team is looking for a top half finish because Aston Villa is a big club. That’s what we want and anything above that will be a bonus.’

A bonus? With Ellis and O’Leary in charge, it will be a frigging miracle! 😉
