We all know how good he is and how key he is to our team and the wider world has now finally started waking up to it as well, and that’s not to say there aren’t areas of his game that he can still work and improve on, but we are seeing him do just that as well.

Earlier this week there was a good interview with goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who now knows both very well indeed and he told Talksport about a few of the comparisons he has seen.
“He is the most talented player I’ve ever seen. He never gives the ball away. When I see Grealish running, it’s always a shot on target or a corner for us. He will drive past two or three players. I just see Messi with a right foot when he has the ball. You can’t get the ball off him. He’s the most talented English player and I’m surprised he hasn’t played more games for England.”
Pushed further on the Messi comparisons, he added.
“Messi is Messi, he’s the best ever. But in terms of training, when Jack has the ball, people don’t want to tackle him, they respect him, he can finish, he can chop, he can do everything. When I train with Messi for the national team, it’s the same. Nobody wants to touch him, he chops people, he treats players like cones. I see that with Jack here.”
High praise indeed, particularly so coming from Emi who has also more than proven his worth this year having been given a proper opportunity to shine.
He may not be there yet given Jack needs to up his goal tally, but there is a good argument that in time he could potentially be even better than Messi when you factor in the relevant strengths of the divisions and more so, the relevant strengths between the two sides they play for.
After all, Jack can do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke and has shown he can make a real impact at international level. Sadly after last night’s hugely disappointing performance, I can’t also say he can do it on a cold night in Brighton, which would’ve been a nicer way to end this.
