When the transfer rumours go quiet, we often sneak in and get a player and lets face it, for the fact the window is now open, the papers seem to be struggling for any really juicy links to Villa!

According to the Daily Mail, Villa are set to bid £4million for Manchester City defender Richard Dunne. They say that Villa are looking to bolster the defence following Olof Mellberg’s departure to Juventus and the fact Curtis Davies is out until at least October due to an Achilles injury. The Republic of Ireland centre-back is the first Manchester City player to win player of the season award four times.

The Daily Mail also repeat the links to both Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell and Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster who was linked last week as a possible loan.

On the gossip sites it is claimed that Villa are looking at 21-year-old Charleroi striker Habib Habibou who is on loan at Steaua Bucharest.

Meanwhile other papers are reporting that midfielder David Bentley has turned down a new contract offer at Blackburn with Tottenham and Chelsea looking at £15million bids. Villa were also recently linked.

And that so far today is all the gossip that I can find. Boring eh?! Maybe the journalists are on holiday so temporary staff are making up the stories instead!
