The speculation over our manager has now created as many if not more, column inches than Milner’s move.
Looking at the glass as half full (which ALL fans do, bar none), this appointment has seen to it that Aston Villa’s profile in the public domain is as high as anyone else in the Premiership and indeed higher than most!
What is the benefit, I hear you ask?
I shall do my very best with my meagre brain to explain it. When a club’s profile is constant and high, there is a peripheral benefit, and this benefit is, that once the manager has been appointed the profile remains high and the residual benefit in turn, is that high profile names become linked with the team.
With particular reference to Mr. Houllier, his Europe wide contacts and experience are probably worth two Martin O’Neill’s and a Curbishley!
Mr. Lerner has delivered on every single one of his promises to our club. He has missed no self-set deadlines and continues to support our club during a time when it is very easy for owners to hide behind the recession argument. I for one will cheer loud and proud at his appointment, and will greet the new manager with all the fire and vigour of any other, for we cannot look backwards and we cannot yearn for what may or might have been.
We can only accept the here and now.
I respect Mr. Wheelan and his bravery for appointing Mr. Martinez, but our club with the uppermost respect is one that deserves and expects bigger things. Let us not forget Mr. Houllier was destined for Milan, Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich AND Chelsea.
As a managerial appointment, Mr. Lerner has moved our club into the upper levels of the world league, not just the premiership.
For a Chairman with NO experience of appointing a premiership manager, he has taken his time, taken advice and I believe, taken us to the next level. Once again we can proudly demonstrate we have possibly the best Chairman in the league. And in direct response to’thirty one’ if anything, the sale of Ashley Young to Liverpool is even more unlikely now for all the reasons you mention.
All top players ever want to do is play at the highest level with the best coaches and one leads to the other. We have a world class coach/manager, we should now prepare to take the next step forward as a team. Lets not forget that Liverpool’s European success of 2005 started with the very strong foundations laid by Mr. Houllier who, according to Jamie Carragher, had to ‘re-build that great club after it’s systematic destruction by Graeme Souness.
Now I’m not saying that MON ruined Villa in any way. He did more in four sesons than most managers do in forty, but we all know morale, confidence and self belief probably need repairing at the very least. Mr. Houllier has this expertise and experience.
From Reza (South Africa Lions Club + Villa legend, the amount he spends to come over and watch Villa is amazing!)
Global contacts are HUGE very well respected and admired I know that just from our small hole out here ..
So yes does he have attraction power? More than MoN I believe ..
Does he know that global football market? I`m told no one knows it better than he does
Will our players take to him? Yes they would (friedel and warny included)
Can he improve us ? now there`s a question above all questions but ..he can if he exercises his value and learns from past mistakes and shortfalls ..
Hey who knows..we might even see the return of Miss Aston Villa!!!!!
