A report in the Daily Mail today suggested that Villa are looking at smashing their record transfer fee (£9.5million for Juan Pablo Angel during the John Gregory era) and bring in former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan.

The report suggests that the Uruguay striker has an exit clause in his contract meaning he can leave Villarreal if a £15 million bid is made.

The Daily Mail have Forlan quoted as saying: ‘It’s not only Liverpool who’ve asked about signing me. In January, I rejected a loan move to Sunderland. I also know another Premier League club are asking about my availability.’

So whether this is the Mail guessing that Villa is ‘the other club’ or not I don’t know! Still, that is a better link than the one in the Daily Star claiming Villa and Birmingham are fighting it out for the capture of West Ham striker Marlon Harewood. I have seen reports where the striker is reportedly valued at around £3million.

  • Harewood……….Nooooooooooooooooo. Might as well go the whole hog and buy Heskey to partner him. No seriously – if you had a blank cheque book and needed to get your team to push onto Europe is Harewood the man you buy? I think I would rather have Bobby Zamora.

  • Forlan might be ok….actually if you cant score for Man Ure then your going to struggle at the Villa…christ someone phone a paper and put a good rumour about.

  • Harewood’s agent is insulting MON by even spreading this ridiculous rumour. And Tyler, Zamora is only slightly better. Lerner and MON are in charge now not Ellis and O’Leary

  • A big, no, a huge ‘NO’ to either. Lordy, Lordy, the Harewood talk will give me nightmares and keep me tossing and turning all night. Let Small Heath beat us to the punch for his signature, please! The thought of Forlan is almost as bad. Would he really be the answer to our need for a consistent goalscorer? Somehow I think not.

  • If u can’t score at united, he must be on ugly son of a bitch or he just crap – bat at 15 mill – your dreaming aren’t u?? W should spend 20 mill on Babel and Sneijder – Vince Grella from parma instead of coco. Half the price – twice the player.

  • what is this harewood *****? i dont wanna see him at vp, hes not a bad player, but no. Id take forlan though, well see anyways

  • theres no point in discussing the harewood rumour because by the beard of zeus theres no way in gods name that there is any truth in that one. which is why i am discussing it with this comment

  • Harewood and Forlan. One is shoite the other is worse (you can work out which is which). Three strikers/players that are on the market that should be on our radar include Alan Smith (competition for Carew). SWP (right midfield) and Darren Bent (competition for Carew, Moore, Gabi). At the moment everybody is waiting for one move to start a chain reaction. I would say sod this, “a leader not a follower be”. Grab the bull the horns and dictate what happens in the transfer market instead of waiting for others to make there move first. Fortune favours the brave!

  • no too any of the two clowns, forlan couldnt score at the mancs and harewood couldnt score in the red light district in amsterdam. i agree with myleftfoot 20 mil for sneijder and babel ajax coundnt say no and we would have two outstanding attack minded players that will hopefully turn our 17 draws into 17 wins.

  • if i remember rightly, forlan had trouble getting his first (which he did against us!) after that he got a few. then they sold him about 4 months later

  • Preston have given their approval to two clubs, allowing them to speak with the impressive David Nugent. Would like to think that we are one of those two clubs, although media reports suggest otherwise.
