Aston Villa’s U21 side battled back from behind tonight in the game against Blackburn Rovers to take a justified point for the second game running.
This means Sid’s boys have now taken two points from the opening two games following an identical scoreline against Stoke City on the opening day of their season.
Blackburn arguably had the better of the first half at Leigh Sports Village, but we still had chances to have opened the scoring ahead of them putting the ball in the net for the first time on 15 minutes, but that was struck out for offside.
Eight minutes later they made no mistakes as their player finished at the second attempt after goalkeeper Craig Hill kept out the first shot.
Again, the story of the first half for us, as other chances fell our way but the usually reliable Callaum Robinson and Micky Drennan just didn’t have their scoring boots on tonight.
The second half was much the same, although this was our better half especially in the closing stages as went in search of the leveller, but we still had to clear one of their efforts off the line and they struck the woodwork.
Jordan Graham came close to levelling the scored inside the final 20 minutes, drawing a good save from the goalkeeper and it looked like our trip would see us return with nothing as the game entered injury time, but having been denied previously, Graham wasn’t about to make that mistake again and three minutes past standard time he latched onto a Tom Leggett ball and slotted it past the keeper.
Those with an eye on tomorrow’s Capital One Cup potential line up, may raise an eyebrow at those not involved this time round – but who got pitch time against Stoke.
