Michael Drennan has revealed that the U21’s took a huge boost from the half time pep talk made by Paul Lambert in their season opener against Stoke yesterday.
Speaking to the Official Site following the 3-0 victory at Bodymoor Heath, Drennan said having Lambert take an interest and speak to them, gave them all an extra spring in their step and it was the perfect motivation for them to get out in the second half and perform as they know they can.
‘In the first half we did alright but we didn’t go forward as much as we wanted, we kind of went side to side. Before the second half the gaffer came over and said a few words and we did much better. He is very good and know what to say. It was an honour to have him come over and say a few words. It gave us a boost and confidence going back out.’
Good to see Lambert taking such an interest in the youngsters, hopefully that will continue given what he’s already said about the club playing the same way throughout the levels, as the youngsters will certainly benefit from him knowing them intensely and working with McAndrew as they develop.
