Villa’s young charges continued their recent improvement in in games by putting West Bromwich Albion to the sword two one.

Speaking ahead of the game, under 21 manager Gordon Cowans said the whole team were relishing the derby day atmosphere, especially as the game was taking place at Villa Park itself tonight, and clearly that helped as we ran out winners to knock up four wins in our last five games.

‘It will lift everyone by playing at Villa Park. It’s a game you want to win when you’re playing against your local rivals. After that, we have three more really good games against Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea – it doesn’t come much bigger as a young player.’
