Gordon Cowans’ Under 21 side got back to winning ways last night with a one nil victory over derby rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Skipper Jordan Lyden scored right on the stroke of half time, and Villa kept the clean sheet in the second period to come out with all three points and bring an end to our back to back recent defeats.

This was also another game where seniors weren’t involved, so it was a true Under 21 showing from us.

I’ve found quotes by Sid following the game.

“I thought in the first half we were very good. It took us a long time to get the goal but once we did get the goal, we thoroughly deserved it. We played some very good football, got at them and caused them problems. In the second half we got a little bit untidy, they tried to get back into the game and it was end-to-end stuff. Thankfully we saw it through. I thought we did well to see it through. We showed a lot of desire, work-rate and at times a lot of quality as well. Jordan finished the goal well, it was a good header. I thought Andre Green and Corey Blackett-Taylor were always a threat. That’s what we said at half-time – as long as we keep getting the ball to those pair, they’ll cause problems. It was important to get back to winning ways as quickly as we could. Thankfully we did get that win and hopefully we can start kicking on and get some more.”
