Aston Villa’s Under 23 side failed to capitalise on Stoke going down to ten men in Monday’s Under 23 fixture.

Stoke took the two nil advantage at Bodymoor Heath with strikes from Mark Waddington and Tyrese Campbell, but Khalid Abdo did pull a goal back after the break when the visitors were down to ten.

Regular followers of our Under 23 side shouldn’t be too concerned though as it was very much a younger age and less experienced starting eleven, as Keinan Davis, Callum O’Hare, Jake Doyle-Hayes and Mitch Clark all sat out the game and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy wasn’t involved either, which obviously raises questions as to whether they will play some part in tonight’s EFL Cup clash against Wigan Athletic.

Real details of the game are thin on the ground as – well maybe we’ll get something from the official site today but so far they seem preoccupied with the Norwich win – so this is with a nod to both the Birmingham Mail but also Stoke City’s official website.

Villa:

Sarkic, Suliman, Lyden, Toner, Borg, Bedeau, Prosser, Clarke, Mooney, Abdo, Cox.

Subs:

Johansson, Knibbs, Williams, Walker, Revan.

Goals – Abdo (76).

Stoke:

Haugaard, Banks, Souttar, Da Silva, Pemberton, Waddington, Dunwoody (Hill 77), McJannet, Jarvis, Shenton, Campbell (Ayoola 77).

Subs:

Bursik, Cherdieu, Balde.

Goals – Waddington (19), Campbell (pen 52).

Red – Jarvis (2 yellows).
