Aston Villa’s Premier League 2 Division 2 title hopes are over following a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United in last night’s encounter.

Heading to St James’ Park for the tie, Villa were looking to make it nine wins from nine matches to take it to the wire with Blackburn Rovers. The match was our game in hand on them, but the gap remains four points as we go into the final tie of the season so automatic hopes are now dashed.

Villa have however secured their Play-Off spot for the campaign and the final fixture day will confirm our future opponents in a one-off semi-final which will take place on home soil, so we have that advantage.

A shame ultimately but eight wins out of eight was a fantastic run for Kevin MacDonald’s youngsters but it was always going to come to an end at some point.

See out the season strongly now and get back to winning ways in the next match and then Play-Offs hear we come.
