Kevin MacDonald’s Under 23 side showed a little bit more nous than a more experienced Sheffield United on Wednesday evening in the Premier League Cup clash.

In fairness to both, the game was a dead rubber as both sides had already booked their place in the quarter final stages of the competition so short of it being a run out and a change from training, with nothing riding on the final group game credit has to go to our young charges for ensuring they got the win nontheless.

Dutch youngster Colin Odutayo scored the only goal of the game at Stocksbridge as he found the net on nine minutes against a side that featured first team regulars Kieron Freeman and Ched Evans.

I’d like to tell you the team as I know a number of you are interested but it appears from a Villa perspective it never actually happened. I know the game counted for nothing given we had already progressed to the next stage, but this is a little silly.

I therefore thank the team over at Sheffield United for putting my mental state at ease and proving said game did actually exist on Wednesday afternoon.

On that basis I can only give you their squad information.

Sheffield United:

Eastwood, Freeman (Broadbent 60), Mallon, Graham, Heneghan (Oure 45), Semple, Gilmour, Doherty, Evans (Parkhouse 60), Colville, Smith.

Unused: Dewhurst, Portman.

To give this more of a Villa Under 23 flavour, I can however offer you highlights of the previous victory over Reading.

Don’t let your eyes deceive you, it may say Tuesday but this game took place on Monday, I promise you!

I’ll add an ‘updated’ to the title if/when I find greater details that as Villa fans we’d be interested in. It may come later today, it may come next year – I really don’t know.

Let’s wait and see if the tie against Blackburn Rovers goes into a time warp now.

Player of the Season vote launched after a heavy defeat, closed before it goes live, matches on days they didn’t happen and no references to matches on days they do happen….

Jeeez…(walks off feeling better about about his own cock ups!)
