The president of Uefa Michael Platini has once again stuck his nose where it is not really required and attacked the foreign ownership of English clubs.

Talking to Sky Sports News, the Frenchman said: ‘I can’t understand how so many English clubs are owned by foreign people. I think we can do something. I don’t know why Americans come to buy some clubs. You need your identity. I can’t understand why some English clubs are owned by Americans because they do not come for the beauty of the game, for the romance of the football in England. They come because they want to make money. We need to defend that.’

Adding, ‘If you have Manchester against Liverpool it is part of the population of the cities. But now if you have an owner from America against an owner from Russia, I don’t like it.’

So come on then Platini, with the money swimming in football, what exactly are you going to do about big money owners? Instead of sniping, tell us your plan? Villa had an English owner for many years, the club still lost its identity. For me I couldn’t care less where the owners come from, as long as their intentions are good. I dislike the playboy at Chelsea, I understand why the Manchester United fans dislike their owner who levied the purchase with massive debt and the Manchester City owner does seem ….. I’ll leave it there for fear of legal action or a human rights attack against me! Only time will tell what the foreign owners do at West Ham and Liverpool, but from what I can see so far, Randy has nothing but the best interests of Villa at heart, if he wanted to make big bucks, I wouldn’t think football was the wisest of investments, or funding player buys from his own pocket? Looks like he is up for the challenge of re-establishing our identity to me.

We’ve had some very dodgy British owners of clubs over the years, where exactly is the game under more threat with foreign investors? Fair enough there is much too much money in football and the best thing that could happen would be a player wage cap, that might help address the burgeoning disparity between the pampered play boys in the Premiership and the fans who pay their hard earnt money to watch them! Maybe he’d be better addressing the players wages and looking to introduce some decent technology to assist referees!!
