Underwhelmed? We Were Many Moons Ago As Well

Many moons ago Villa fans were waiting for a new appointment under Doug (or yet another new appointment under Doug!).

Massive names at the time were available, Terry Venables, George Graham etc.

We took John Gregory.

Who they said?

Underwhelmed some said.

Within a couple of days of him talking the truth (as Sherwood does) talking to fans with respect (as Sherwood does) and setting us up to attack (as Sherwood does) the place was buzzing. We went from relegation threatened and shot up the league. The place breathed again, it buzzed again and it felt like Villa again.

This one has gone down pretty well with most, some who doubted are now saying 100% backing as we all know the job at hand and that includes the need for the 12th man. Those underwhelmed will soon turn as well I`m sure.

I do think if we`d kept the previous manager we would have gone down, the stats were spiralling out of control and our momentum was in one direction only.

We now have a young fresh guy who I reckon might just have a point to prove after doing well for Spurs and still not getting the job.

To quote a Spurs fan, “As a Spurs fan that has witness Sherwood at close hand, I believe he will be a very good manager for you. He might rub a few up the wring way, but equally he will get a great reaction from others and those others will be the players with the club at heart and also with the ambition to play. He will once again make the football attractive and attack minded, whist I always felt he thought and talked like a fan and in a way that was emotional and passionate and say what needed to be said and what the fans were also thinking.”

To not be bored and despondent at every game will do for me. Oh and he was one of two I named on my forum as desirables… Important fact for you both I know! AHEM!

Poll results pretty much ok with this appointment. I must admit, of all the names, most really weren`t available and wouldn`t have walked out on their clubs at this point of the season. I also think (and said on the 11th) we needed a tracksuit type manager like Sherwood (also mentioned McAllister for the job he did when Houllier was sick), one who will get stuck in at training and hopefully also bring in some class assistant manager wise as well.

Tim Sherwood –

Poll Date: 14 Feb 2015
Suggested By: JP Fear

Good appointment 52%
Awful appointment 16%
Beggars can’t be choosers 13%
Average appointment 12%
Great appointment 7%

He also polled quite high in our first one, asking which manager you would like:

Jurgen Klinsmann 24%

Other 20%
David Moyes 18%
Michael Laudrup 13%
Tim Sherwood 11%
Glen Hoddle 7%
Martin Jol 2%
Gareth Southgate 1%
Sid Cowans 1%
Sean Dyche 1%
Chris Hughton 1%
Gary McAllister 1%
Mark Warburton 0%
Nigel Adkins 0%

The coin needed tossing, it has been thank goodness. Now we hope, we pray and I`m sure the 12th man will turn up and cheer. Nothing left for us to do than to back the Villa boys in this massive task to stay up.

The one thing I will thank Tom Fox for is getting this sorted quickly. Some are saying Sherwood had been at games before, I think the one photo doing the rounds is QPR, another isn`t actually Sherwood (just looks slightly similar) and another, I know of nowhere in corporate where we have dark blue rope cordoned off sections!
