Martin O’Neill is looking for hungry players at Aston Villa and intends to speak to them to see who has the ambition to restore Aston Villa’s reputation following last seasons poor displays.

O’Neill said: ‘I need to speak to all the disenchanted players. I wouldn’t want people like Angel, Baros, Hendrie or Barry walking out the door without having spoken to me. I’m assuming Milan will not be fit enough to travel with the international team next week, so I will talk to him then. I hope the players retain some enthusiasm for playing for the club, even those who may be disenchanted.’

He also says that although he will try to convince them to stay, if they aren’t happy he won’t look to keep them.

‘I will meet them individually. That’s the best way. They may have a personal gripe or moan and I might be able to sort it out. Sometimes if people are absolutely adamant that they no longer want to be part of it, persuading people might be a bit more difficult, so there’s no point in me saying that everybody is going to be here.’
