Vassell On The Cheap? WHY??

So, reports suggest Man City have finally moved for Vassell. Ok, nothing wrong with that, an England International striker, they are bound to bid £4-5million right?

Wrong. Reports suggest the bid was for £1.25million. The report suggests Villa will turn this down – too f..king right they should turn it down – but goes on to say they would possibly sell for £2.5million.

The question has to be WHY? Why would we want to let Vassell go on the cheap? We buy players at their most expensive but rarely get top dollar for players we sell. Need I remind anyone of the Crouch sale and his current price? Thought not.

So, I have no problem with the idea of Vassell moving on – I think the guy is hugely talented but until he realised that fact and starts to dominate the way a lad of his age should, he will never be a top drawer 20 a season striker. However to move him on, bearing in mind we have a very small squad (copyright DOL), surely we need to generate a real income for him? As a youth player he has cost us in training but not in buying him. So – you would think – for him to be allowed to leave, the minimum should be £5million. Anything less than that and you would have to question, what was the point, what would the money bring in as a replacement? Maybe Vassell and £2million for Distin if that is the player that DOL has set his heart on BUT ffs, PLEASE Aston Villa, don’t sell yet another asset off cheaply.

I’m sure they won’t……..Will they?

Reports also suggest that Villa have bid – or are going to bid – for 23 year old striker Baros. Lets hope we get him for a reasonable fee, after all, Liverpool are rejecting him and he has fallen down their pecking order. In Baros we would get a rough diamond, it would then be up to the coaching staff to polish him off…………so to speak.
