Jordan Veretout yesterday completed his move to Italian Serie A side Fiorentina bringing an end to speculation about his future.

Having long been linked with a move to St Etienne following his loan spell with the French Ligue 1 side last season, Dr Tony Xia admitted they were faffing around over the fee so it was Villa who pulled the plug on that move – and not Veretout as the club had suggested – and instead with Fiorentina willing to meet our asking price we choose to deal with them.

The 24 year old now links up with head coach Stefano Pioli and he leaves us having joined in the summer of 2015 with 29 games to his name.

The transfer fee wasn’t disclosed by Villa but the Birmingham Mail report the fee as being around the £6.25million mark with additional money in add ons and performance related clauses.

Not the full fee we paid for him, but certainly a hefty chunk to help us balance the books on a Financial Fair Play front and he has signed a four year deal with his new side.

Veretout now links up with Carlos Sanchez who completed a move to the side earlier in the summer.

  • I still think if he had joined us at a time we were not struggling, and playing a settled confident team, he could of been a success with us. But we were struggling, the team was unsettled, and the rest is history.

  • Good to get the wages off our books. Don’t think he had the application to go with the skill. Very good in glimpses. Incredibly lack lustre and sloppy all too regularly.
