With Aston Villa’s pre-season campaign in full flow and plenty seeing the positives as we approach our first year back in the Premier League, unexpected arrival from Birmingham City, Jota, has been speaking about his first few weeks at the club and he’s clearly enjoying himself.
Having impressed many in pre-season and during our 4-1 victory over Charlton Athletic last weekend, Jota isn’t the only new signing to begin warming themselves to the fans but he’s certainly stood out.
“Since the manager called I knew I wanted to come here, because I know the way he likes to play football is the way I like, it is similar."

Speaking to the Official Site having reunited with head coach Dean Smith following their time together at Brentford, Jota felt he’d now settled in ‘really well’ and already knowing what Smith wanted from him had certainly helped.
“I’m very happy with the team principles, to take the ball, work with it, because that’s my favourite style to play. I feel more comfortable with this because the team always want to play that style. I’ve settled very well, I’m very happy to be here. I feel comfortable with the style of play. Since the manager called I knew I wanted to come here, because I know the way he likes to play football is the way I like, it is similar. I am very happy to work with him. It was a good time at Brentford, I know him very well and I feel I want to give back to him with the confidence he has put in me. Really I am feeling in my best moment now. I have more experience now, I have played a lot of games, and I feel this is good a moment to have this opportunity at such a big club.”
He also picked out Jack Grealish for an obvious round of praise given his own performances and importance for us last year, so Jota is definitely relishing his first shot at the top flight and given what we’ve seen from him so far, he could be an even better signing than many had first hoped.
Some real corkers in here. 👇
