Anwar El Ghazi was heavily criticised by some supporters after Aston Villa lost 3-0 at Wigan Athletic on Saturday. The 23-year-old has struggled for consistency since joining Villa on loan from LOSC Lille and he was largely ineffective against the Latics.

Before being hooked off after 62 minutes, El Ghazi failed to register a single shot in the game and created just one chance for his troubles. He did make two dribbles but was then guilty of making four unsuccessful touches and being dispossessed on two occasions.

He attempted just 13 passes against Wigan too, completing less than 70% of them, and didn’t find a teammate with any of his attempted crosses. All in all, it was a bad day at the office and fans let El Ghazi know that they weren’t pleased with what he delivered.

El Ghazi has made 14 Championship appearances for the Villans this season, scoring and creating six goals. His failed to find the back of the net since early December, however, and may find himself out of the starting eleven if he can’t improve his performances – the winger has contributed only one goal in his last seven outings in all competitions.
