Forum member Tierney gives us his thought’s on yesterday evening’s victory over Cardiff City.

A sublime goal from Jack Grealish with five minutes remaining in the game at Villa Park was enough to put Neil Warnock’s nose further out of joint at the full time whistle and a delighted Tierney explained.

I watched the game from a Spanish stream so can say my thoughts are without commentary bias.

I thought the first half wasn’t as horrendous as people made out. We did lack creativity, but bar the saves at the end of the half Sam Johnstone was untroubled.

One reason I think we struggled was Cardiff’s dirty and cynical play. I’ve been reading the views and perceptions regarding them but was taking it with a pinch of salt. My word, how I should’ve believed; they truly were keen to stop anyone in Claret & Blue by any means necessary.

What I thought was a delight was the introduction of Jonathan Kodjia. It was the turning point in our favour. At the time, I thought Albert Adomah was unlucky to be hoinked (I’d have chosen Snoddy), but for some reason, it seemed to drive us on forwards.

The goal was deserving of winning any game and despite Johnstone putting in some fine saves, there is a means to argue we might have deserved it overall?! Particularly on the counter, we should have killed it off – Lewis Grabban’s selfish shot from 20 yards is the one springing to mind.

Yes, we might have blown it ourselves against the lower teams; but we’re starting to show we can beat the better teams on the bigger occasions.

Taking the positive view, this season we’ve beaten:

Wolves
Fulham
Cardiff
Middlesbrough
Bristol City
Sheffield United

That is a huge positive heading to the play-offs. Fulham deserve to take that second spot.

I’m a happy chappy this evening – UTV!
