Villa Achievement Is “Something Special” But Smith Is Looking For More

|

Aston Villa welcomed Millwall to Villa Park for today’s Championship Easter Monday action.

With our fine run of form seeing us win nine games on the spin, equalling a 109 year record going back to 1910, today could see head coach Dean Smith and the current Villa side enter the history books if we made it ten wins on the trot – and with Play-Off hopes being more than alive now given our recent form, three points was obviously the aim of the day.

It was far from pretty and our more free flowing best, but we did just enough to get over the line and secure the win as Jonathan Kodjia scored on the half hour mark to return all three points and put this group of players into the history books.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle, Smith said of the game.

“If you had asked me 11 games ago would we go and win the next 10 I would have thought you were a little bit crackers. The turning point was half-time at Stoke when I got into the players and we have been excellent since then. I don’t think until I look back on it I will realise what we have actually done because my focus is still on getting promoted. It is a historical great football club and to be the first manager to have achieved it is something special but we want to continue it.”
